The Future of Urban Living in Vaughan

The Future of Urban Living in Vaughan

A rendering of the proposed Edgeley Pond and Park coming soon to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.

In 2017, Vaughan became the only urban centre outside of Toronto to be connected to the city’s subway system. The opening of the VMC subway station marked the beginning of what would become a new destination for urban living.

In recent years, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre has seen over 10 new condos, including Cortel’s new landmark high-rise community, CG Tower, which welcomed its first residents in October 2024. CG Tower is part of Expo City, the first phase of which included the first condos at the VMC, as well as Nord Condos and Towns. More condos are on their way, including Forum, Cortel’s modern urban community coming to Creditstone Rd. & Highway 7.

The area will be home to new parks, amenities, restaurants, retail areas, and more, all connected by urban footpaths and transit offerings including a newly proposed GO Station, multiple rapid transit corridors, and new bike lanes.

Let’s check out a few of the key ways that the VMC will develop in the near future.

A Proposed GO Station & Transit Additions

In the coming years, we can expect the VMC to receive many additions to its transit network, as outlined in the Transportation Master Plan. The current plan includes suggestions for a bus corridor on Jane Street, a new bus route circulating through the VMC, and increased frequency on the Highway 7 bus corridor. Once complete, VMC residents will never be more than a 5-minute walk from one of several rapid transit hubs.

Another exciting addition is the proposed Concord GO Station. This new stop on the Barrie Line will be located at Hwy 7 and Bowes Road, alongside our upcoming community, Rose Garden condos. It will offer rapid service into downtown Toronto.

New Bike Paths & Sidewalks

Vaughan’s new Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan has laid out a number of significant changes to the city’s active transportation infrastructure. A series of new sidewalks and bike paths are planned along Jane Street, in a project known as the Jane Street Uptown Link. This project will include 8 kilometers of dedicated cycling paths, 4 kilometers of new sidewalks, and 4 kilometers of streetlight enhancements along Jane Street. The project will be open for use in 2026 and represents Vaughan’s increasing initiative to establish more walking and cycling paths throughout the city.

Edgeley Pond & Park and the “Vaughan Super Trail”

One of the most notable features of Vaughan’s future is Edgeley Pond & Park, a new green space coming soon to the heart of the VMC. This urban park is the largest open space, city-owned piece of land in the VMC and sits right beside Expo City, including Nord Condos and CG Tower. The park’s first phase included a skating loop, splash pad, and playgrounds. The coming phases will include water views, a trail system, and riverside walking paths.

The city also has plans to create a unified trail network. Dubbed “the Vaughan Super Trail,” it will consist of 100 km of off-road pathways and on-road pedestrian and cycling paths. Vaughan will be adding to the 40% of the trail that already exists. The trail network is planned to connect destinations like Kleinburg Village, North Maple Regional Park, and the VMC.
